Let me start by saying I had no sewing experience at all (unless you count making aprons in home-ec twentysome years ago!) before I got this machine. I received this as a Christmas gift and by following the manual, had no trouble getting started. It took me a while to figure out patterns and all the jargon, but this machine was easy to use. Great machine for a beginner. It does lots of stuff I have not needed to use yet, so it is probably a good buy for someone more advanced as well! Very pleased overall.
