Amazon.com Review
Capable of 32 stitch functions and loaded with other options, this Singer machine is simple to operate and makes it possible for even novices to enjoy creative sewing. Some of the convenience features include a top drop-in bobbin that's easy to put in, easy to take out, and easy to see; a simple threading system with a dial for precisely adjusting needle-thread tension; an electronically controlled foot pedal for smoothly maintaining or changing speeds; touch-and-wind hand wheel declutching; push-button reverse sewing for neat seam-ends; a three-needle position selector for attaching zippers and top stitching; and a built-in four-step buttonholer for easy buttonhole sewing.
The machine is quiet and ruggedly built, includes a sewing light and a built-in carrying handle, provides horizontal thread delivery for better stitches, and has a slide-off extension table for free-arm sewing. Real excitement comes from the 32 stitch functions provided, including embroider, appliqué, satin, crescent, feather, and five zigzag variations. A complete accessory package (various presser feet, friction-free spool holders, transparent bobbins, and needles for sewing different fabrics) is included, and it stores onboard the machine, which weighs 20 pounds and measures 15-1/4 inches wide, 11-1/2 inches high, and 6-3/4 inches deep. Invaluable is Singer's illustrated, step-by-step instruction booklet covering everything from the basics to zipper sewing to pattern stitching to free-arm sewing to highly detailed buttonhole sewing--and much, much more. --Fred Brack

it's good until you need it fixed
by Customer AVZLY6TS6F3SG at December 04th, 2005
i really liked this machine until my needle clamp went awol during a move. since this is a mass-marketed low-end machine, singer does not market replacement parts for it, and nobody's willing to help. my local sewing store has a lot of machines lying around for parts; that's my only hope at this point. caveat emptor.

by Customer A3P3XJSTDL7IU1 at January 20th, 2005
My wife used her mom's Singer in the '80's and she was able to start using this one with ease. My only criticicsm is that it took 6 weeks for the machine to arrive.

I love it!
by Customer A1O6P540OXGUXD at January 20th, 2004
I have an older model of this machine. I have NEVER had to service it in the 14 yrs I have had it. It still sews wonderfully. For the lady with the loopy thread you need to adjust your bobbin tension. I highly recommend this machine. I have made costumes, quilts, dresses, curtains and much more with mine.
Don't trust Singer
by Customer A1U9XQB02GJVT3 at January 03rd, 2004
I agree...don't trust Singer. My machine never sews a good stitch and the bobin continuously falls out it's case causing huge loops in my stitching. I contacted them and got a standard e-mail- they didn't address the issue at all and didn't offer a suggestion or solution. $199 down the tubes!
