Customer Review

So Glad I Took a Chance!
by Customer A1JE9PZMC3D3SS at October 25th, 2005
This is the first sewing machine I've ever owned or used. I have always wanted to learn to sew and shopped around researching sewing machines for a year til I settled on this one. After reading all the mixed reviews I decided to go ahead and purchase this one anyway and I'm SO glad I did!

Bear in mind, I've had no previous experience with using a sewing maching except that I know sewing machines are rediculously heavy from having to move my grandmother's machine from one spot to another. This sewing machine is also heavy, but not nearly as heavy as the ones I've come into contact with. It's got an attractive design and the outside is made of a tough plastic like material but it's completely solid throughout. It does NOT appear cheap or flimsy as another reviewer suggested. It's a sturdy enough machine as I carried it to work with me for the day once so that I could bring it with me to an evening sewing class I had enrolled in. It withstood being toted around in the case quite well though I would never do it again. The machine is still quite heavy and not totable.

I had problems with the bobbin as others had discussed, almost identical to the others at first. The bobbin strings got all mangled up around the bobbin wheel and I had to remove the metal plate with the included screwdriver to gently get it all out. What I discovered later was that I had been threading the machine incorrectly. I learned the threading technique from off of a video included with my purchase but there are certain nuances about the threading itself that are missed in the film. I had to read the manual to get it right and since then I haven't had a problem with this machine at all. The manual seems intimidating at first glance but it is very easy to follow. And the machine does take sized 66 bobbins as another reviewer suggested.

I love this machine and can't imagine having a better machine unless it can sing and dance. I'm careful to shut the machine off in between, while I'm futzing with my sewing project because I have this paranoia about the ingine getting overheated if it just sits there running for hours. Burnout is prone to happen to any machine that's just left running long term so I'm trying not to take any chances. This is a perfect little machine that you can grow with as your sewing skills get better and better. Highly recommended.
